| Goldie Harkins Smith, age 88, passed away February 9, 2010 at Habersham Nursing Facility in Demorest, GA following declining health. Mrs. Smith was born May 15, 1921 in Union County, GA and lived in Habersham County for the past 72 years. She was the daughter of the late James and Sarah Wimpey Harkins. She retired from Clarkesville Mill after 22 years of service. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Norman Smith, brother Hughlet “Bill” Harkins and sisters Lucille Miller, Winnie Stone and Reva Jordan. Also half brothers and half sister Chandler Harkins, Otis Harkins, Pat Harkins, Burley Harkins, Virgil Harkins, and Letha Harkins Galloway. Survivors include sons and daughters in law Lamar and Patty Smith, Travis and Carol Smith, Hugh and Betty Smith, and Marvin Smith and Louise Keller all of Toccoa, brother Clinton Harkins, sisters Floyia Greene and Margie Bramlett, 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Stephens officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 from 2 – 4 PM and from 6 – 9 PM.
